Urban Decay Vice 3 - Review and Swatches

Hi Sweets,
After being so inspired since using more colour (especially in the lower lash line) I decided I ‘needed’ the Urban Decay Vice 3 and so I got, all be it a little battered in transit and I have to say I am rather impressed.  (Cue intense, emotional music) Sadly, truth was all but shattered, so I had to do a little home surgery and I am happy to say that he recovered well and applies wonderfully.

For the love of gold – Burberry Gold Collection for Holiday 2014

Hi Sweets,

Burberry Beauty has always been a brand that I have been interested in but something that was almost unattainable, unless I wanted to use a forwarding company or pay taxes etc.  But that has all changed since the wonderful website Net-A-Porter opened their shipping services to NZ!  So let’s do a good ol’ haul.

Hi Sweets,
Today, I am going to do a quick review of Milani’s Rose Powder Blush.  Ok, let’s just get the obvious comment out the way…these blushes are A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E !  A beautiful pressed blush in the shape of a bloomed rose, encased in a rather sturdy plastic casing.

Dior Golden Shock Collection

Hi Sweets,
This year the Christmas collections have been out in full force, and super early too!  Usually I don't get overly excited by Christmas/Holiday collections but for some reason I have been drawn to them this year.  I think its because although the packaging for many collections are quiet lux and attractive, and lets face it good packaging can been very alluring, this time round the colours are actually wearable year round and are something that suit a lot of people.  This year I went a little Dior crazy and got 4 things from their Holiday offerings.

A little Mac never hurt anyone

Hi Sweets,
Sooo.... lets go back a few months ago when I said I was on a spending ban.  I might have well just handed my money straight over to every makeup counter, or online store!!  Needless to say I didn't do as well as I thought I would, so to drown my sorrows and make myself feel better about not spending money, naturally I went and spent some more....  Beauty addict logic, isn't so logical.

Revlon ColourStay Moisture Stain - Parisian Passion

Hi Sweets,
Who doesn’t love a new lip launch??  Well we all know I do and when the Revlon Colourstay Moisture Stains started appearing in reviews I was instantly interested.  My initial thoughts (before seeing them in store and being able to swatch etc) were the packaging looked really attractive and the shade selection was excellent.  The only thing I wasn’t too sure on was whether the Moisture Stains would be too gloss-like for me.

When nude becomes neutral!

Hi Sweets,
Let’s face it… we all have those days or special occasions when we don’t really give a *insert choice of naughtyness* and even though we want/feel the need to look presentable, we just don’t feel like putting in the regular effort.  For me that means I look to products that don’t take a lot of work or need hours of blending and aint nobody got time for the drama of winged liner (well not this girl anyway, haha).  I look for multi functioning products, particularly in the cheek department.

Halloween - Hourglass Femme Rogue Velvet Crème Lipstick = Nocturnal

Happy Halloween, Sweets...
When it comes to lipsticks recently I have been going for variations of the same shade.  Reading descriptions, looking up swatches etc and when I look in my cart I noticed they all look the same.  Usually I find it really easy to go online and find something I like, as this is something that I have learnt the art of doing, as so much of my makeup has been purchased online (many brands aren’t sold in NZ or are overpriced).  On the odd occasion when I actually go in store I really enjoy swatching everything!! On this occasion and after an arm full of swatching and not feeling particularly inspired, I looked over to the Hourglass section and it was like a breath of fresh air, a ray of sunshine at the end of horror movie or a stake randomly appearing just before a vamp comes to chomp you on the neck (maybe I’m being a little dramatic here haha).  I spotted a beautiful range of colours that were unique in comparison to the current offerings from brands at the moment and I found the ‘one’.

Halloween - The Vampire Edit

Hi Sweets,
When it comes to Halloween and costumes there are a couple that I think everyone thinks of.  For me Vampires, although almost a generic and common costume, are something iconic to the horror genre and something I new I could whack together quickly, with no need to go out and buy a specific outfits or makeup (minus the teeth).  Vampires have always been one of my favourite creatures and something that have always intrigued me, so this was the perfect chance to give the vampirus look a go .  (no humans were hurt in the making of this makeup).

Halloween - The Doe Edit

Hi Sweets,
Halloween comes but once a year and I thought I would get a little festive and do a small  3 part series just for this 'celebration'.  Halloween isn't really a big deal here in good 'ol NZ, but when else would I ever get to try out a fun makeup look?  #iwokeuplikethis.  I decided that for my first look/post I would do a generic face application that could then be customised into a doe, house cat or big cat (lioness etc).

Spring makeup trends 2015

Hi Sweets,
Wow! Wow! Wow!  These were the words that came to mind when I caught up on fashion week and the makeup trends for spring 2015!  I am in love with the trends and am so on board for the fresh faced, luminous and gleaming finishes that was (or will be) spring 2015.  This year’s makeup took the approach of the ‘barely there’ look.  Minimalism was key, as was dewey youthful, uncomplicated skin, accompanied by classic chic features and nuances of a sun kissed bronze.  To me there were four main components to the makeup looks seen on the runway, so let’s break it down.
thebase
‘All about the base’:  When looking at all the models, regardless of designer or runway show there was one common denominator with all the makeup looks, the base.  The models had a simplistic, clean, stunningly organic and glowing complexion.  Layering was key for this I think, using illuminating primers, subtle concealers that blended into nothingness and fresh bases that looked invisible on the skin, creating an overall ‘honey dew’ incandescence to the face.  (Am I using enough adjectives, people?)  Where talking no cakiness, no flat matt finishes just healthy unblemished skin (no pressure models).  Also lips were plump, glossy and nude.
dembrows
Dem brows:  Say hello to the power brow, sweets!  Gone are the days of the ‘carved’ out brows and in are the days of full, natural groomed brows.  We’re talking subtle arches, feathered edges, and soft points (brow tails).  The brows were used to create a more youthful look, ‘highlighting facial features’ in a more flattering way.  I also noticed that some looks had soft pastel purples and turquoise lightly brushed through the brow, so intriguing.
theeyes
Eyes:  “We want them to look believable; you see something’s happened, but it’s just an overall impression of prettiness (-Dick Page of the look at Michael Kors)”.  Evident in this season trends was what I like to call the ‘effortless eye’.  The eye makeup up either had a soft pop of colour or hazy smokey eye with fluttery soft lashes, using brown mascara, going bare, or just coating in the tips of the lashes.  There were no complicated outer corners or unwearable colours, but mostly shimmery gold’s and rich bronzes that complemented the overall ‘honey skin’ mentioned earlier.
thepop
The Pop:  ‘The pop’ was all about the liner, either paired with an eye look mentioned above or a bold graphic liner on its own.  Spring 2015, is embracing a strong confident liner.  I noticed thick black wings, edgy white double wings and striking, diagrammatic coloured liner that cut the crease and winged out defiantly.  A fun way to push the boundaries and juxtapose a natural fresh face.  Also it is important to mention that pop of red-orange on the lips.  Hello Burberry, ugh LOVE!
Overall, a healthy fresh face, which looked untouched, yet flawless, was the key to the Spring 2015 trends.  It’s going to fun, playing with bases, embracing what I already love about natural brows and maybe experimenting with bolder liner.
What were your favourite looks of Spring 2015?

Bobbi Brown Corrector

Hi Sweets,

Holy…Holy Grail, I think I finally found the one!  An amazing corrector, that assists in covering my pesky bags and blueness around my eyes.  It looks natural, doesn't cake and blends seamlessly.  What is this magical object I am speaking of, (well if you couldn’t tell from the pictures :P) the BobbiBrown – Corrector.  This is my first Bobbi Brown product and I am in love!  A new obsession even...

‘Chanel – Viatalumiere loose powder foundation with mini kabuki - a review

Hi Sweets,
When it comes to Chanel, I have a pretty big weakness.  They are one of the high-end brands that I really love and although they aren’t 100% cruelty free or use all the best products I truly can’t help myself.  Needless to say when I saw a few promo pics and a couple of reviews, I knew I would want to try this out for myself.  So like a Magpie in a jewelry shop, I picked up the new ‘Chanel – Viatalumiere loose powder foundation with mini kabuki’.

Roadtrip fun - Kaikoura day 2

Hi Sweets,
Day two of my trip to Kaikoura was all about the wildlife!  Kaikoura has some amazing wildlife on offer everything from dolphins, whales, albatross and local seal colonies.  We were going to go whale watching but at the hefty price tag of $145 we decided against it.  The one great thing about Kaikoura is that although they have some highly over priced, yet amazing attractions like the whale watching, it also has some priceless views and nature to explore.

Roadtrip fun - Kaikoura

Hi Sweets,

Since moving to Christchurch nearly 2 years ago I have done quite a lot of exploring of the city but haven't been able to go much further.  Luckily, a weekend became free in my and my friends schedule and we jumped at the chance to have a quick weekend getaway.  So we hoped online booked a motel room, packed our bags, filled the car up with petrol and set off.  We decided to go to Kaiakoura, as it offered lots of beautiful scenery, walks, wildlife and was only 2-3 hours drive.

Ok, so I know I said that I was on a spending ban, but I have to confess that #feelingspendy came over me and I did a spot (a rather large spot) of shopping.  Some things were gifts and some weren’t but none the less, I now have a rather large stash to share with you and some lovely products to review.  Rest assured I haven’t done any damage since September started and don’t plan on splurging on anything just yet… I hope haha.

#Spring has sprung - Blush addition

Hi Sweets,
The cover
Spring has sprung Sweets!!  Here in good ‘ol NZ we are finally transitioning out of the cold, harsh winter and autumn seasons and  have spotted the beautiful sun peeking through the clouds, woo!!
During spring I love to break out some of my brighter blushes, to give my face a healthy glow at the very slightest glimpse of the warmth and sun.  This spring I am feeling the peachy tones and pink oranges, as they provide that beautiful flush of colour and energetic pop to the face!

RealTechniques - Duo Fiber Collection

 Hi sweets,
the cover1

A few months ago I purchased the Duo-Fiber Collection by RealTechniques.  The collection consists of 3 white handled duo-fiber brushes that are perfect for adding the final touches to any every day makeup look.  I think these brushes are geared toward giving you a little more control, allowing each application of product or step to your makeup to be buildable, as well as giving off a more diffused and natural finish to each step.  In true duo-fiber form these brushes don't pack on colour, but despite these brushes being less dense and fairly sparse, they are able to pick up just the right amount of product, blending in to the skin seamlessly.  I especially like these brushes because they allow you to have more precision with the overall application of makeup, helping you to choose or customise how pigmented the overall product appears on the skin.  For example when using a highly pigmented bronzer you have the option of really diffusing the edges, creating a soft focus feel on the face and developing the colour where needed, great for when creating more definition in the hollows of the cheeks.

These Duo-Fiber brushes are made with synthetic taklon bristles and are less dense than the standard RealTechniques range. They are also hand cut and cruelty free.  The bristles work with cream, liquid and powder formulas and are designed to give an airbrushed finish.
DSC_0011
The Face Brush is perfect for applying a light layer of finishing powder to the face, to create a lovely soft glow and I have found it works really well with the Hourglass ambient powders.  Similarly, this brush is great for adding an all over bronze (to go with that glow I was talking about).  I have been using this brush with my Too Faced - Bronzing Wardrobe and have loved the results.  Since this brush has long, sparse bristles that are less compact than your typical bronzer or blush brush, it sways gracefully over the face and  blends product very well and as mentioned before allows you to concentrate the colour with a little more control.  I do like this for blush too but lately I have been loving quite a bold cheek, so I haven't been favouring this brush for that step.
DSC_0013
I have used the Contour Brush for a range of uses and have enjoyed it for each application.  The Contour Brush is fluffier, denser and packs more colour than the Blush Brush and because of this, I love using it for cream products.  I used it for foundation and although it took longer to blend out completely it do a good job buffing out the base product.  I also have used it as suggested, using a powdered bronzer and liked the results as well, but the way I have loved using this brush is with creams.  It does a fantastic job buffing cream product into the skin, leaving an almost 'airbrushed' finish to my bronzer, contour and blush.  It just finishes things off with a natural soft look and this would have to be my favourite brush of the bunch
DSC_0016
The Eye Brush is the least used brush in the set for me and that is because I currently am loving other brushes to blend shadow.  However, this is a great little brush to quickly soften an edge or blend out a colour when doing a soft neutral eye or smoking out that sultry look.  I think this brush, as with the others is multi-functional but I haven't explored this little guy all that much.

So to sum it up, I wouldn't say these brushes are must haves but are lovely additions to any brush collection and do a delightful job during my makeup routine!

Have you used these brushes?  What’s your favourite one or way to use it?
